The BlackJack 256 is the flagship of the BlackJack line of high-performance bay boats. Constructed by skilled craftsmen in Knoxville, Ark., the 256 is the largest of the BlackJack models and is. If we are going on fit and finish and all around boats then this is where I'm going Top tier: yellowfin Second tier: Shearwater, pathfinder, blackjack Third tier: Champion, ranger, triton Fourth tier: frontier, nautica star, blue wave, blazer bay Obviously I left some out and it doesn't mean that I think they are inferior these are just the really popular ones.

Opinions on Blackjack boatsPosted by Bedhog on 4/22/19 at 10:22 am

I saw one over the weekend. It was the 256 and had the new Mercury 400R motor on it.
I was blown away at how beautiful the boat was. T top, dual 12' Simrads flush mounted to the console. All decking and rubbpoints inside had grey matting.
I'm pretty sure it's the most beautiful bay boat I've ever seen personally.
What manufacturers make better boats than this one?
Does Yellowfin still rank as the best?
Boat looked like this except the sea decking

If I was spending $120k on a boat, it would not be a bay boat
That being said they are pretty awesome

Agreed. They are fine arse boats and have incredible lines. For what they cost, you can get a used very very nice over 30' center console. I cant spend 34 venture money on a 24 foot bay boat

Blackjack is a great boat. 'Best' is highly subjective. The 'nice' factor has been ramped up across the board in the bay boat sector. Take a trip to the next big boat show nearby and take a look at all the brands. Most have the dual electronic screens flush mounted with the T-tops that have molded in speakers and LEDs built in.
'Best' bay boat in my opinion would be Hells Bay Estero

That's understandable but are they the best bay boats?

they are nice arse boats. 'best' is obviously subjective.
That said, if money were no object to me, I'd buy a brand new blackjack 24 for my inshore and mangrove needs.

IMO, yes. They ride great. I'm still not a fan of the new liner hull boats and I'd love to see that hull with a rolled gunnel but given my choice for free of a 256 blackjack and other comparable boats out there, I'd take the blackjack

Funny thing is I saw it tied up at the Prop Stop with a couple of Instagram looking girls taking pictures of themselves on the front of it with thongs on.

that's my next boat, ive been keeping an eye out on the used market of these. they are hard to find. I would for sure not buy a new one and rig it out for over 100k. I priced one a while back with no t top and a 300 yammy and it was right at 70-72k with no electronics or trolling motor. that being said im upgrading to one in a few years and selling my frontier.
my experience with K2 has been great anytime I needed something. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a blackjack over other boats in its class.

I want to ride in an Everglades one day. I've heard they are very heavy but ride the best.

Same with Yellowfin right? I was just amazed by the thoughtful layout of the hull, easy access side rod holder compartments, slight deadrise of the bow. And that 400R. I've never seen a 24' boat with a 400 racing motor on it

24 Ft Blackjack Bay Boats

Beautiful lines, gaining popularity especially in the 25 ft realm. Fit and finish is strong from what I've seen first hand but limited to boat show kicking tires, haven't ridden in one.
Their new 'coastal' 25 footer is a concept I really like as well, with the open rear end like an offshore CC. Camp neighbor had one, loaded out, $120K. Can get a whole lot of other brand of boat for 120K, though.

You have to stop, it's infatuation and dangerous

I've never been on any of those other ones. Out of what I've fished blackjack has been the nicest. Yellowfin is the only one you've listed that I recall seeing in person. Theres not much of that stuff running around here. I think I've seen a few majeks but they look like strictly shallow water boats from what I remember

Barker is probably the overall best.
I have a buddy with a 24 Everglades and it is nice.
Another buddy just bought a 26 Crevelle and that’s a sweet rig. I know they had one a year or so back with a transom issue but I think they worked that out. They are really nice and can be rigged with a 400R also.

Barker filed for bankruptcy a couple weeks ago so whatever he has in the shop is probably the last of them. Mirrors and Lights shite and such.

Harry Jones: I have been debating a 24 yellowfin as my next boat. I currently have an '02 2400v pathfinder my charter captain had to have as a bait boat. He used it ha handful of times. It was a 47' buddy davis out of bud n marys called the Finnster. He and I parted ways. What I am curious about is, is the 24 yellowfin that much better of a boat than everything else. Wylie has been great and I found one in South Carolina new that I could get shipped back to yf to get outfitted right. I am sure you get a break on the cost of the boat but to put it in perspective to get one loaded the way you do, is what my take was from my buddy davis. I still have a 33 world cat for offshore fishing but have been taking to the inshore backcountry stuff more lately. I primarily fish in Islamorada and Amelia island which is just north of Jacksonville. Thanks for your insight into the 24

Harry,

All good questions. I have fished out of just about all the bay boats on the market and I can say, with all confidence, that the 24 Yellowfin is the best one out there for what I do. I love the ride and can fish just about anywhere in the Keys with the boat on the right days.

You are smart to keep a true offshore boat if you really enjoy offshore fishing. A bay boat is just as the name implies...a bay boat. It can go offshore on the right days and it can fish where the technical poling skiffs go, but it excels at everything in between.

The Yellowfin 24 bay has 3 livewells that are each 50 gallons and most people have only 2 plumbed. I choose to have all 3 plumbed just in case I need or want it. This allows for an offshore load of bait in a small boat.

The Yellowfin is easily the finest rigged boat on the market. Open the console of any other boat and compare. The 24 is rigged the same as Yellowfin's 42. Anyone who has owned a boat in saltwater knows that things are going to go wrong. A great boat builder makes it super easy to diagnose and fix things that inevitably fail due to prolonged exposure to saltwater. Many companies keep their rigging and batteries in the transom where they get maximum salt exposure. Yellowfin keeps the rigging in the console and the trolling motor batteries in a separate compartment below the bow compartment. The trolling motor battery compartment is one of the nicest things about the 24. When you open the front hatch, you dont have to put your stuff on top of batteries, they are completely concealed.

The ride is second to none with the step hull and if you really wanted to go fast, this boat can be propped to get alot of speed. My going real fast days ended as I did my last redfish tournament so I opt for a prop that gets out of the hole fast and sacrifices top end but gives me a nice high ride.

Going shallow is important to me to be able to catch bait in the morning and to catch fish throughout the day. I have never put a ruler down on a flat white sand area to get an actual draft (the most abused statistic in all of boating) but I can tell you that I am able to catch 90% of the fish that I once fished for in the skiff. If the trolling motor prop is covered completely with water, I can comfortably fish and navigate through the area. Additionally, the boat does a great job of distributing the load and I don't see noticeable differences in draft with one versus 2 people on board like I do in the skiff.

Of course, the Yellowfin has all the accessories available that you might want for your style of fishing. It is the things like how a boat is rigged, how shallow it goes, how it rides and how the boat builder organizes batteries and storage options to make each day on the water a pleasure rather than a chore. I am quite confident that Yellowfin's 24 does all of these things as well or better than any other bay boat on the market.

Here is how I rigged up my brand new 24 which is the best one I have built yet.
